Forget Ancient Box, Just Play Roaring Moon Instead!

Hey there, Cut or Tap Readers! Today I am going to share what I believe to be a superior version of a deck that has seen some popularity in the post-rotation Temporal Forces format: Ancient Box. This deck typically features heavy lines of Koraidon and Roaring Moon from the new Temporal Forces set, with some other ancient Pokémon sprinkled in.

The real star of the show here is the non-ex Roaring Moon. This card is an absolute powerhouse, dealing 70 damage plus 10 for each Ancient card in your discard pile, all for the low cost of just two Dark energy. With the right setup, Roaring Moon can easily dish out over 220 damage in a single hit, enough to knock out most Basic Pokemon ex and V!

While Ancient Box has seen some success in recent tournaments, I believe that it has some fundamental flaws that hold it back from reaching its full potential. In this article, I’ll break down the key components of the Ancient Box deck and explain why I think it falls short compared to a pure Roaring Moon-focused build.
