“Knoxville Recap:” 39th Place with Charizard ex

Welcome back, subs! I’m finally back from Knoxville Regionals, which was an amazingly smooth event, so shout out to Day 2 Events for that!

In my previous article, I posted that I would be playing Lost Box Kyogre/Groudon, Charizard ex, or a rogue that I had been working on. Unfortunately, due to travel delays, I didn’t feel I had the mental power to pilot LZB or the rogue to great success so I went with Charizard ex. I’ll go over the other factors as to why I chose Charizard ex, and how my matches went.

On another note, I’m excited to say I’m more than 2/3 to my invite at just shy of 400 points, and I only have a single League Cup finish. I don’t want to jinx anything, but it seems the kiss is sealed for my Worlds invite… Get it Jynx! (Sorry, enough puns.) Let’s go through my back-to-back Day 2 run at Knoxville Regionals.

Why Charizard ex for Knoxville

Before I get into meta predictions or tech cards, I want to go over the largest factor of me playing Charizard this past weekend. Comfort and simplicity played a huge factor in my decision making, giving me the mental break from LZB that is extremely taxing over several months. I don’t say this lightly, as LZB is one of the most skill-rewarding archetypes in Pokemon at the moment, allowing you to pick off your opponent’s mismanaged resources or even slight mistakes.
