Return of an Old Friend: Terapagos ex’s Return

The unknown is scary, and rotation creates so much uncertainty. Many people don’t like change, and the effect of change in Pokemon can be drastic. Even just a few cards joining the Standard format pool can completely alter an entire metagame. I actually enjoy the beginning of brand new formats because there is so much to explore, and the game feels fresh again. I personally enjoy the challenge of having to create, and searching for the next “broken” deck in the Pokemon TCG.  On top of this, I enjoy seeing what other players cook up, and whether or not I can improve on that. Being willing to embrace change is a huge thing in life and also in competitive Pokémon as you grow to become the best player you can be. With rotation happening, I have been actively testing and trying to figure out the best decks in the format. One thing I strongly recommend doing is trying to find a fine balance between a deck I am comfortable with, and something I enjoy. Since this metagame is just simply so wide open right now, there’s so many great decks to choose from. Having an open mind during this time and being willing to explore is just so huge.

Today I am going back to a comfort pick that I really enjoyed in the past, that looks quite different now. Let’s dive in one of the top decks in the format!

Terapagos ex is a deck that is near and dear to my heart. I placed Top 8 at the Louisville Regional Championships earlier this season with it, and it was a deck that I really enjoyed playing. One important skill in the Pokémon TCG is understanding how to look ahead into games. Terapagos was a deck where you oftentimes needed to map out multiple turns ahead, as the deck had multiple hoops to jump through to get the full combo. However, if you got that full combo, you would create devastating combos that often were quite satisfying to pull off.
