Hello Cut or Tap readers, I am excited to be back with another article! Last time I wrote, I talked about my success at a tournament with the Dragapult/Dusknoir deck and gave a breakdown of the list and possible changes. Well, I am happy to tell you that today’s article will share a lot of similarities to the last one – with one big difference. In the time between, we had a rotation, losing many of the staples in Dragapult ex and other decks such as Lumineon V, Rotom V, and Forest Seal Stone. This led to a massive shakeup in the meta, as well as decks needing to be rebuilt from the ground up in order to adapt to these changes.
Interestingly, despite the rotation, two of the best decks from the last format in Gardevoir ex and Dragapult ex still managed to rise to the top of the tournament. Unfortunately, I was not quite able to take down the tournament, as I lost Finals in Game 3 on one of the most exciting last turns we’ve seen in a Finals this season. I wasn’t the only one who saw success with the list, as the same 60 I played also made another Top 8 appearance in the Masters division, as well as taking down the entire tournament in Seniors, showing the power of this build. Today, I will discuss some of the key list decisions we made that allow the deck to be successful into both slow Budew decks and faster archetypes.
As a reference, the list I played to 2nd place at Atlanta Regionals is:
